Be Hopeful! Be Excited!

by Todd Barnett

For those who profess to trust the God-man, Jesus Christ, you have every reason to be hopeful this morning, even excited.

Here are two reasons why:

1. Your hope is in Him, whose death and resurrection have made your life eternally filled with perfect joy.

Please do not devalue the power and permanence of the gospel by posting statements that could lead others to think that your hope was in Mitt...

Romney, a Mormon who believes that Jesus’ brother is Satan. Come on now.

If you can’t proclaim this eternal hope with excitement, just don’t talk. In fact do the body of Christ a favor and stay away from those you might influence until you get this straight.

2. God’s judgment upon our nation by re-establishing a godless authority gives you far greater opportunity to be a beacon of hope for those who have none.

This is huge!

Yes, God’s judgment upon us is bad, but it is good.

When people willfully reject the God of the Bible, embrace sodomy, covetousness (socialism), murder of babies, God turns them over to a debased mind and declares that His wrath awaits them (see Romans 1:18-32).

They need the hope that you say you have. Why should they believe you if you are apathetic or even depressed over the election?! Come on now.

Had he given us Mitt Romney, that would have been judgment also (although less severe judgment). We deserve far worse than Barack Obama.

Romans 13:1 says, “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God” and Psalm 115:3 says, "God does what pleases Him."

He gave Saul to Israel because they demanded to have a human king. It was His judgment upon them. Barack Obama is ultimately best for our nation because it is God's righteous and exacting judgment upon us for our collective abandonment of Him and His precepts. It is a disciplinary measure intended to bring us low and ultimately cause us to recognize our need for the Creator who promises to bless those who obey Him and punish those who disobey Him.

Yes, things will get much worse than they are in our country. And so, we will have far greater opportunities to communicate the power of the gospel through how we live our lives. You SHOULD be excited about that. Come on now.

For Christians, we have the privilege to honor the president and pray for him, out of love for God and for His glory.

Here are your marching orders:

“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” – 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Be hopeful! Be excited!
